Where are you from, and what have you studied and at which institution?

I'm from Sri Lanka, and I studied a Master of International Hotel Management at ICHM.

What motivated you to choose Adelaide over other Australian cities for your studies?

I was looking for a city that offered a more balanced lifestyle compared to the hustle and bustle of Colombo, my hometown. Adelaide stood out to me as a place where I could enjoy a suburban way of life while still having access to a vibrant city. What really made my decision was that Adelaide offered the exact program I was seeking: a Swiss-affiliated master’s in hospitality management. The combination of lifestyle and academic quality made Adelaide the perfect choice for my studies.

My education at ICHM provided a solid foundation in both theory and practical skills, directly preparing me for the fast-paced demands of the hospitality industry. The master’s program covered essential areas like hotel operations, business strategy, and leadership, all of which I apply daily in my current role. It also sharpened my critical thinking and communication skills, helping me make confident decisions and manage teams effectively.

What are some of your favourite things to do in Adelaide?

Since moving to Adelaide, I’ve fallen in love with long-distance running, especially through the city’s parklands and scenic trails. Adelaide is a fantastic place for outdoor activities. As a student living in the city, you’re just 30 minutes from the beach and the hills, making it incredibly easy to stay active and explore nature.

I also enjoy visiting South Australia’s wine regions. Exploring the local vineyards has become one of my favourite pastimes. There’s an amazing range of wines to taste, and it’s a great way to appreciate the culture and beauty of the state.
