Where are you from, and what have you studied and at which institution?

I'm from Sri Lanka, and I completed a Certificate IV in Kitchen Management and a Diploma of Hospitality Management from TAFE SA.

What motivated you to choose Adelaide over other Australian cities for your studies?

I chose to study in Adelaide because of the strong personal and academic influences that guided my decision. My sister moved to Adelaide in 2023 to pursue her Master’s degree, and seeing her embark on that journey was incredibly inspiring. Her experience showed me firsthand the opportunities available in the city and the supportive student environment it offers.

Beyond family inspiration, Adelaide is known for its world-class education and vibrant student life, making it an ideal place to further my studies. My background in Commercial Cookery aligns well with Adelaide's thriving hospitality and culinary scene. Studying here allows me to develop my skills in a city that values innovation and excellence in the industry.

I chose to study at TAFE SA because of its strong reputation for delivering high-quality vocational education and practical training. As someone with a background in commercial cookery, I wanted an institution that emphasized hands-on learning and industry connections, and TAFE SA stood out as the perfect choice.

TAFE SA offers well-structured programs that align with industry standards, ensuring that students gain the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the workforce. Knowing that I would be learning from professionals with real-world experience and accessing practical opportunities to refine my skills made my decision even easier

What are some of your favourite things to do in Adelaide?

Outside of studying, I love exploring everything Adelaide has to offer. Visiting beaches is one of my favourite activities. There’s something incredibly refreshing about spending time by the ocean, whether it’s relaxing, watching the sunset, or simply enjoying the coastal breeze.

I also enjoy hiking and walking, especially after my recent trip to Morialta Conservation Park. It was an amazing experience being surrounded by nature, taking in the scenic views, and getting a good workout at the same time. Hiking has become a great way for me to unwind and appreciate Adelaide’s natural beauty.

Playing badminton with friends is another activity I love. It’s fun, competitive, and a great way to stay active while spending time with people I enjoy being around. Alongside that, I make sure to attend local events, such as the Adelaide Fringe Festival and other community gatherings. These events offer a vibrant atmosphere and a chance to experience the city’s arts, culture, and entertainment scene.
