Where are you from, and what have you studied and at which institution?
I'm from India, and I studied a Master of Construction Management at The University of Adelaide, which in 2026 will combine with the University of South Australia to become Adelaide University.
What motivated you to choose Adelaide over other Australian cities for your studies?
For me, it was a combination of quality education and a comfortable lifestyle. I wanted to study somewhere that offered a great learning environment and also wasn’t too overwhelming. My friends often told me that it’s a pretty friendly, laid-back city and has a strong sense of community.
After moving here, I realised it more because it’s just so easy to get around, the mix of city life and nature, and it's very peaceful. Adelaide is very multicultural and welcoming, so settling as an international student felt a lot easier.
It’s also more affordable than bigger cities in Australia, which makes a big difference when you are an international student.
What are some of your favourite things to do in Adelaide?
Catching a sunset at Mount Osmond Lookout offers breathtaking views over the city, especially at golden hour.
Hiking is another favourite activity. Adelaide has some of the best hiking trails with amazing mountain views and wildlife sightings. Some of my favourite trails are Devil’s Peak, which is a solid workout, Mount Remarkable Summit, and the Onkaparinga River Walk.
Trying new food places is always fun. I think Adelaide has the best quality food, and you can’t go wrong with Adelaide’s brunch spots. I also enjoy exploring artisan markets and second-hand bookshops.
I have always enjoyed volunteering. It has allowed me to connect with others and helped me understand the needs of the community. I have done various volunteering jobs, from delivering food to people in need, to educating students on sustainability, and to improving and maintaining the rail network.
